Which Generation of Computer is Still Under Development?

Introduction
Do you want to know Which Generation of Computer is Still under Development? You are in the right place.
The Fifth generation of computers is still in the development phase. The fifth generation computer uses AI, "Artificial Intelligence".
These 5th generations of computers use superconductors for faster processing and handling with parallel processing.

How Many Computer Generations are There Till Now?

There are five generations of computers that have been there until now that we will discuss below.
  • First (1st) Generation Computer.
  • Second (2nd) Generation Computer.
  • Third (3rd) Generation Computer.
  • Fourth (4th) Generation Computer.
  • Five (5th) Generation Computer.

First (1st) Generation Computer.

The first generation computers used vacuum tubes in their hardware and magnetic drum used in the memory. They were huge and needed big room for accommodation and installation.

They produced lots of heat and energy, and hence due to the heat, the hardware component used to get damaged or sometimes burn.

Therefore, installing Air Conditioner to keep cool for better functionality and safe from damage was mandatory.

They used to understand and process "low level programming languages," also called "machine language".
Examples of First Generation Computer
  • ENIAC:: Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer.
  • EDVAC:: Electronic Discrete Variable Automatic Computer
  • UNIVAC 1:: Universal Automatic Computer 1
Second (2nd) Generation Computer.

The second generation computer used and utilized “Transistor” instead of enormous “Vacuum Tubes”.

Three scientists Bardeen, Brattain and Shockley, invented the transistor in 1947.

This transistor helped computer systems to be smaller, cheaper, and faster. They produce less heat and energy.

They primarily used FORTRAN and COBOL.

Examples
  • IBM 7030/7094
  • Honeywell 400 Philco
Third (3rd) Generation Computer.
Jack Kilby developed the integrated circuit in 1958.

The third generation computer used and utilized IC, which stands for Integrated Circuit. These IC replaced transistors and vacuum tubes as they we far more advanced.

Examples
  • IBM-360 Series
  • Honeywell – 6000 series
  • PDP (Personal Data Processor)
  • IBM-370/168
  • TDC-316
  • UNIVAC 1108
Fourth (4th) Generation Computer
The fourth generation of computer systems is equipped with a "Microprocessor". The personal computer that uses a microprocessor is called "Micro Computers".

The microprocessors are known as CPU [Central Processing Unit] or Processor. The microprocessors are considered the heart or brain of a computer.

The first commercial CPU was the Intel 4004, released in 1971 by Italian Physicist Federico Faggin.

Microprocessors are developed using Large scale Integration.
Examples::
  • Intel Pentium
  • AMD
  • Apple II
Five (5th) Generation Computer

The fifth generations of the computer system are still in the development phase. It uses and utilizes modern technology known as “Artificial Intelligence”.

They use superconductors as well as parallel processing for better and advanced functionality.

They are multitasking and multiprogramming computers that can communicate with humans in sign languages, images, and voice commands.

Examples of 5th Generation Computers
  • Personal Computers {PCs}.
  • Workstations.
  • Laptops.
  • Chrome Book.
  • UltraBook.

Fifth Generation of Computers is Still Under Development.
The fifth generation of computers is still under development.

These computer generations include present and future computers.

These computers are far superior to their counterparts; they are faster, robust, advanced technology, and have excellent storage capacity.

The ULSI {Ultra Large Scale Integration} is used in the microprocessor.

These generations used parallel processing and Artificial Intelligence for better and high-end performance.

They can handle and process high level languages like C, C++, PHP, JAVA, etc.

These computers are equipped with capabilities to learn and execute information, data, and knowledge independently.

They can understand input entered by users and act accordingly to provide the desired result.

The 5th generation computer can be accessed with voice commands.

Some of the examples are
  • Google Assistant
  • Siri
  • Alexa
  • Windows Cortana

The majority of the tech giants are working on “Artificial Intelligence” with machine learning and data science to improve the quality of their products.

The days are not that far when technology will rule the world. Nowadays, computers are deciding on their own with the help of their intelligence, and they are still improving day by day.

Technology is a science which needs constant development according to the world’s requirements, and in the present era, 5th generation computers are still in the development phase.

Who is the Father of Modern Computer?

Who Invented Computer
Who Invented ComputerCharles Babbage
Charles Benjamin Babbage is known as the "Father of Computer."
Mr Charles Benjamin Babbage was a mathematician, philosopher, invertor, and by profession a "Mechanical Engineer."
He invented his first computational device and called "Differential Engines."
He also invented the automatic computing machine known as the "Analytic Engine."
