How To Create Partition Using Fdisk Command

Let Us Boot Computer Using Windows 98 or hiren Bootable CD to create partition using fdisk dos command

Step 1 :: Insert Bootable Windows 98 or hiren Bootable CD In CD-Rom Or DVD-RW to use fdisk command

Step 2 :: Restart Your System , When computer Boots .Go to CMOS Setup / Bios Configuration By Continuous Pressing DEL Key From Keyboard Some common Keys are F1,F2,F10,F12

Tip :: Go To Your Computer Motherboard Manual And Find Which key to Hit to Go to CMOS Setup .Sometimes It can be seen while Computer starts at the Bottom of The Screen)

Step 3 :: After Pressing Key You Will Find Picture as mentioned below..CMOS / BIOS could not look exactly as shown in the figure ...BIOS Feature Depends upon the BIOS Manufacturer. Your BIOS May Does not look like ours but if you closely look at it you will Surely get an idea...Some common Bios manufacturers are Award, Phoenix.

Step 4 :: Go to Advanced Setup And press Enter Key from Keyboard... change the setting to 1st drive = Your DVD-RW 0r CD Rom Here I Have used DVD-RW....2nd Drive = Your Hard disk (ST380815AS) You can also change the setting by page up and page down key or + - keys from keyboard...

Press F10 from Keyboard & save the changes now computer Will Restart....

Step 5 :: Select Start computer With CD-ROM Support And Press Enter from Keyboard This Will Help You to Boot from Win98 Bootable CD With all command access

Step 6:: As the Computer Boots A:/> will appear on the screen... Just Type fdisk command and Press Enter...

Step 7 :: Press Y And Hit Enter Key....If your Hard disk Is more Than 512 MB Then computer defines it in LBA mode(Large Block Addressing mode) ..

Step 8 :: Now You Just Take A look Here ...We Need To create Dos Partition and logical Dos Partition so that select 1 by Arrows keys from keyboard and enter ..You can also enter 1 in Enter choice and Press enter from keyboard..

Step 9 :: Here Fixed disk Has Prompt a message Where Asking User To create all the available size of hard disk for Primary dos Partition i.e. Drive C ...If You Want Only 1 Partition i.e. Drive C Press Y If You Want to create more Partition i.e. D, E , F, G Etc. Press N and Hit Enter from Keyboard...

Step 10 :: In The Below Picture I Have Entered 5000 MB For my Primary Dos Partition i.e. Drive C...You can Enter any size For Your Primary Dos Partition...You can Only enter the Size of the partition in MB As Fixed disk command Only Recognize Size Entered In MB

Step 11 :: You can see In The Below Picture .I have created Primary dos partition as C: with 5005 MB Of Size Which is 7% of total Hard disk Space..With No volume Label. Press Esc Key from Keyboard...

Step 12 :: Now As Primary Dos Partition is created go to create Extended Dos Partition ..Extended Dos partition collects all the logical Partition Under Itself .i.e. D: , E: , F: , G: Etc Are Logical Dos Partition Which are Hold together By Extended Dos partition... Select 2 from Keyboard And Press Enter..

Step 14 :: Here I have enter size for logical dos partition i.e. D: 5776 MB I just Want to create 2 partition on my hard disk c: and D: if you want to create more you can choose your size for logical dos...Press Enter from Keyboard...

Step 15 :: The Below Image Show That you have successfully create logical dos using fdisk command as d: with size 5776 MB and is 100% of the available size of hard disk..

Step 16 :: go to option 2 by using arrow keys from keyboard or just pressing 2 ..You need to set the partition c: active as later you are going to install an operating system to that drive..

Step 17 :: Press Esc And Go to A: You must Restart Your computer so that the partition You have created can be saved ....Press ctrl + Alt +del From Keyboard...

You Have Successfully created partition using fdisk command..You can delete the partition using delete option in fdisk command ...But make it sure that you first delete logical dos partition then extended dos partition and later primary dos partition...don’t forget to restart the computer when you have deleted all the partition from hard disk
